Jean Fautrier, vase of flowers

Expertisez.com presents this bouquet of flowers by Jean Fautrier dated 1927.
Jean Fautrier's work can be divided into two very contrasting periods: the figurative period, from the 20's and 30's, then the so-called informal period... Dark backgrounds dominate in the figurative period, nudes and portraits... treated with powerful contrasts of light. It is a kind of rembranesque chiaroscuro, in a range of black and ochre, plunging the subject into an atmosphere of mysterious irradiation. In fact, black is only used as an extreme color, with a purely plastic effect. He is then under contract with Paul Guillaume, famous dealer of Modigliani, Soutine... part of whose collection is part of the Orangery Museum in Paris.
This painting was originally acquired directly from the artist by Armand Parent. Brilliant representative of the famous Liège violin school, Armand Parent could not remain in today's memories as a simple author-arranger of pieces for children (gathered in several notebooks under the title Le Petit violoniste, éditions Delrieu). As remarkable as this pretty compilation is, of an irreproachable taste, it should not obscure the real dimension of the character who was also a composer and, moreover, a cultivated man, a collector in his own time.
