JUANITA QUIGLEY/BABY JANE AND MICKEY MOUSE - Lot 72
JUANITA QUIGLEY/BABY JANE AND MICKEY MOUSE MGM & Walt Disney, 1930s. Photograph, vintage silver print, captioned on the back. 25.6 x 20 cm, including white borders. Note: Promotional photograph featuring two figures from the Hollywood film industry of the 1930s: Juanita Quigley, a child actress known early in her career as “Baby Jane,” and the character Mickey Mouse, created by Walt Disney Studios. Born in 1931, Juanita Quigley began her career at the age of three and made a name for herself alongside Claudette Colbert in John M. Stahl’s *Imitation of Life* in 1934. She went on to pursue a career as a child star, appearing notably with Jean Harlow in *Riffraff* in 1936, before joining MGM productions. The photograph of the young girl with Mickey Mouse illustrates the promotional practices of classic Hollywood, which paired young performers with popular characters. However, the exact context of this photograph and the existence of an official collaboration between MGM and Disney have not been confirmed by an independent source.
